Geoff and Andrew first started playing guitar together about 10 years ago and soon decided to form a band when they met up with Brian. The concrete floor of their rehearsal room (Geoff’s shed!) was a bit cold, so down went an off-cut of carpet. Each week, the three wanna-be musicians tramped the contents of the garden in and out of the shed. Thus in 2001, the band was named – Dirty Carpet!
A drummer, vocalist and keyboard player were soon recruited and Dirty Carpet played their first gig in October 2002 at the Half Time Orange, Leicester. Over the next two years, the band notched up a few more gigs at local pubs and clubs and their first wedding gig in Cardiff.
By 2004 the band had a fairly settled line up and their reputation as a leading covers band in Leicestershire began to grow. With regular gigs has come a lot of experience and Dirty Carpet has continued to go from strength to strength playing at weddings and parties across the Midlands.
In 2011 the band had some personnel changes with some former band members moving on to new musical opportunities. Phil (keyboards) and Tom (drums) joined late last year and with Louise (vocals) joining most recently, so the story continues.
And the original carpet? Well, that’s buried under several more layers on the shed floor – needless to say the band now wipes their feet!
